Recruiting for the new Shropshire Hills National Landscape Advisory Committee

Can you help us to make the Shropshire Hills a thriving landscape that everyone can feel part of?

We are recruiting for the new Shropshire Hills National Landscape Advisory Committee.

This is a voluntary role, with three main meetings per year plus some additional events. The main tasks are constructive advice on the work of the Shropshire Hills National Landscape team and input to strategic issues.

The skills sought for the committee are an understanding of partnership working, experience of strategy and finances for a small team, positive collaborative approach, and links with the Shropshire Hills from a variety of perspectives.

The new Shropshire Hills five year Plan ‘Thriving in Balance with Nature’ sets out a bold vision and seeks to involve and support many stakeholders in its implementation. Our updated structures have opportunities for getting involved.

The Advisory Committee is a group of 12 people, with formal status as an advisory committee to the two Councils. 7 open seats will be appointed on the basis of relevant skills and motivation, to sit alongside 5 Council appointees. 3 meetings a year with agendas, papers, etc. Members will be expected also to participate in our public Forum.

The role is essentially that of a ‘critical friend’ – to scrutinise our work and contribute constructively and collaboratively. A variety of lived experience in the committee will help us to deliver better for all of society, and we welcome involvement from those linked to communities which are currently under-served or under-represented.

You can expect the role to be interesting, and to provide you an opportunity to contribute and work collectively with a range of people towards common aims. The role is voluntary (some expenses can be paid if this is genuinely a barrier).
