Nature Calling

The National Landscape Association and Creative Executive Producers Activate Performing Arts, present Nature Calling, an exciting programme of art commissions, made by writers and artists of all disciplines, engaging new audiences across some of our unique National Landscapes.

In the Shropshire Hills, ‘Whispers of the Hills’ is our community art project bringing together people from diverse backgrounds who face challenges related to neurodiversity, mental health, and social isolation. The project invites people from the Telford and Wrekin area to discover a deeper connection with the National Landscape. Through exploring, observing and listening, participants have immersed themselves into the landscape in ways that activate reflection and presence.

It's being delivered by Pneuma Affinity, a newly established CIC rooted in the principles of Creative Health. Ceramicist and environmental educator, Roz Donati, has helped participants from Telford & Wrekin CVS, My Options, Park Lane Centre and Challenging Perceptions to explore the Shropshire Hills' rich history, geology and natural beauty.

Clay flags hanging in the hills

Inspired by these experiences, participants have created stoneware ceramic flags incorporating ground ancient rocks, mark-making, and prose. The flags will form a sculptural gateway between the urban industrial town of Telford and the open hills. This installation becomes both a physical and symbolic threshold, honouring resilience, healing, and our shared responsibility toward the environment.

‘Whispers of the Hills’ celebrates the ancient memory embedded in the land’s geology and offers a space for people to find a deeper sense of belonging, inviting all who encounter it to listen, reflect, and reconnect.

The installation was launched this autumn by Telford’s Mayor at a celebration event in Telford Town Park to mark the success of Whispers of the Hills. Nature Calling logo
