Public consultation closes on new 5 year Plan for the Shropshire Hills

The official public consultation period on the new draft Shropshire Hills Management Plan 2025-2030 has now closed.

A range of views have been expressed on various topics including affordable housing, water quality, farming, nature, planning protection and action for climate change.  Comments received will now be considered and refinements made to the Plan before it goes to Natural England for formal observations. The Plan then goes to the Cabinets of the two Councils for formal approval towards the end of the year.

We started developing the Plan with our Partnership two years ago and have held discussions on the Plan in every meeting over that time.  Since March members of the team have delivered a detailed presentation on the Plan to 10 different groups of key stakeholders, reaching several hundred people. The presentation is available to view here. Our two minute audio summary has proved to be a useful introduction for a lot of people, and our dedicated summary web page unpacks the 6 themes of the Plan – Nature, Climate, Water, Land, People and Place.

We held a workshop focusing on the new aspects of Doughnut Economics and regenerative principles within the Plan attended by 24 people, and have discussed Plan principles with our Young Rangers group. We have held meetings and discussions with key stakeholders and will be following up more of these to discuss comments submitted.  Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the process so far.

Although the formal consultation period has ended, we will be able to take into account further comments up to the end of September, which should be submitted by email to shropshirehills-nl@shropshire.gov.uk.
