'Walking with the Ancestors -Hillforts of the Iron Age'

Explore the fort of Caer Caradoc with local author and artist Jo Jukes.

Starting from Cardington Village Hall, Jo will lead us up the over The Wilderness, past Robin's Tump, a ruined tumulus and up into the fort of Caradoc. We’ll catch the wind and views from the summit and hear of Caradoc's story by the illusive cave before heading down towards Three Fingers Rock to return via Willstone Farm into Cardington again.

Listening to the ancestors, seeing the surrounding hillforts in the Shropshire  landscape is something of a passion for Jo and her journey to discover all the Iron Age sites is told in her book “Finding Home - Journeys with the Hillforts of Shropshire”.

The walk is free and open to the public as part of our Fix the Fort project to restore and improve access on this important site.  It's a strenuous walk with uneven terrain- please dress for all weathers.

To book please contact us by email shropshirehillsaonb@shropshire.gov.uk, or call 01743 254740, or book direct through Eventbrite

Refreshments after the walk will be available in Cardington Village Hall as part of a Friends of Conakry Refugee School charity fund raiser.

Jo Jukes is a writer, artist, musician and popular workshop leader. The recurring themes of her work are the natural world and our relationship to it. She is the author of a celebrated book  'Finding Home - Journeys with the Hillforts of Shropshire. Here she explores her place on this planet and develops connections with the land to a wonderful hidden and secret historical landscape. Jo allows the land to speak to her through stories, songs and poetry and encourages to do the same by opening up to these perceptions.

Event starts at 1:30pm.
