Snailbeach Mine Open Day

Snailbeach Lead Mine was one of the biggest and richest lead mines in the country.  In the 1850s, when the mine was in full production, there were some 500 men employed. It closed in 1955, although by this time it was a much smaller operation.

The Shropshire Mines Trust manage this important industrial heritage site.  You can walk between the tall chimneys, engine houses and tramways at this extensive restored mine site.  The mine building will be open and underground tours available.

The restored miners’ cottages at Blakemoorgate - on the hilltop above Snailbeach, are also open.  The cottages provide a fascinating insight into life in days gone by.  You are welcome to explore the site, which is owned by Natural England.
