Pine Marten Magic, restoring nature with you, me and our children.
This year marks a significant milestone for conservation across the Shropshire Hills.
The Shropshire Hills Landscape Trust celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2026 — a decade of channelling community support into practical, ground-level conservation work right across the National Landscape.
Find out more about the Trust and their investment in Pine Marten Magic, restoring nature with you, me and our children.
Illustrated talk by Sue Crichton, Wheathill Wildlife.
Pine Martens are England's rarest mammals and were thought to be extinct in Shropshire for over 100 years. More recently they are being found in local hubs. The Shropshire Hills Landscape Trust has supported community projects to study the behaviour and distribution of pine martens in the Shropshire Hills.
The talk is free to attend. We ask for a £5.00 donation which will cover hall hire and refreshments, with all additional contributions going to our 10th Anniversary Conservation Fund.
Every pound helps us say 'yes' to more community projects protecting the Shropshire Hills.
STORY & LEGACY
Pine Martens are England's rarest mammals and were thought to be extinct in Shropshire for over 100 years. More recently they are being found in local hubs. The Conservation Fund has supported community projects to study the behaviour and distribution of pine martens in the Shropshire Hills. The data collected is shared with other local and national networks focused on pine marten recovery.
Shropshire Mammal Group
This project aimed to increase the geographic spread of monitoring pine marten across the Shropshire Hills by empowering communities to get involved with camera trapping and den box surveys. Volunteers were trained to install and monitor camera traps at 5 woodland sites. The project mapped habitat to identify where improvements and links are needed.
Wheathill Parish
Following several unconfirmed sightings of pine marten in the Parish, 5 trail cameras were bought and installed along the 3 mile stretch of Cold Green Dingle, to monitor any activity. Den boxes were sited at carefully chosen locations to encourage resting and breeding places.
Friends of Pontesford Hill
Pine marten activity at Pontesford was first captured on camera in 2018. The project enabled a dedicated volunteer team of 15 people to monitor and record pine marten activity with 2 new camera traps. The information helps to better manage the site for pine marten.
Event starts at 6:30pm.
