Volunteer Conductors needed for the Shuttle Bus

Would you like to spend a weekend morning or afternoon riding on the Shuttle Bus talking to passengers and helping the driver to issue tickets?

We are looking for 3-4 volunteer ‘bus conductors’

Requirements – are you?

  • Available on most Saturdays or Sundays until the end of September
  • Comfortable to use a modern, digital ticket machine (full training given)
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Patient and able to work under pressure on busy days
  • Good with people – happy to chat to passengers about the area
  • Reasonably fit – able to frequently get on and off the bus, work in a relatively confined space and help people on and off the bus if required
  • Able to conduct a simple passenger survey
  • Able to use WhatsApp to coordinate cover as part of a WhatsApp group
  • Able to get to Carding Mill Valley independently (or be picked up between Cardington and Church Stretton by the bus on its way to the start)
  • Passionate about the hills and able to promote the Shropshire Hills National Landscape to visitors

Previous experience in customer care or hospitality not necessary, but an outgoing, friendly and people focused personality essential.

Our plan is to have a morning and afternoon shift system on Saturdays and Sundays, ideally coordinated by you and three to four other volunteers as part of a WhatsApp group. The busiest times are the morning shifts, the afternoons are much more relaxed. Full training and regular support provided.

Shifts – to fit in with timetables departures from Church Stretton

  • Morning 8.45am – 12.15pm
  • Afternoon 11.45pm-5.45pm

Benefits

  • Free two-person season travel pass (worth £100).
  • Unparalleled views of the Shropshire Hills
  • Fresh air and exercise
  • Job satisfaction - helping to make the bus better by helping passengers and contributing to future planning and decision making. You’ll be our eyes and ears on the bus, and your experience of how it works will be very valuable.
